Trumpet Repair & Precision Valve Lapping
Restoring Compression & Crisp Articulation.
A trumpet is an engine of compression. If the valve seal is compromised, the ‘slotting’ of notes becomes vague. At Brass Toff, we focus on the hydraulic integrity of the valve block. Whether you play a vintage Bach Stradivarius or a modern Yamaha Xeno, we restore the mechanical tolerances that give the trumpet its projection and snap.
Common Trumpet Issues We Resolve
- Red Rot Treatment: diagnosing and treating dezincification (pink spots) in the leadpipe before it eats through the metal.
- Precision Valve Alignment: Adjusting felts and corks to ensure the ports line up perfectly (down to the millimeter) for optimal airflow.
- Bell Truing: Rolling out rim trauma and bell flares to restore projection without deadening the sound.
- Stuck Slides: Releasing seized tuning slides using controlled heat and penetrating vibration, preserving the plating.
